Instant Tail Chaser (HOn2 1/2)
(Built in an Evening and Half a Day
Part 1)| Home | Next |
One day recently, my friend
Hiromi Masaki, called to say he wanted to demonstrate a new HOn2 battery loco. However, he also wanted me to prepare a simple straight test rail built to 7mm gauge so we could run this loco. "It's OK if you use either Code 40 or Code 55 rail," he said. "And maybe you should build this test rail on a plywood base using double-sided adhesive tape or ACC."Once I had thought the process through, I decided to use Code 55 rail secured to the plywood using Hiromi's suggested double-sided tape method for Tail Chaser. I have now found this an easy short cut for building such small layouts. (Because I wanted to cover the tracks with plenty of soil, the conventional method of soldering rails to ties would have been a lot of unnecessary work.)
I made this small Tail Chaser over one evening and half the following day, and recorded the procedure. Maybe you might like to try it -- and save time -- on your next micro layout!
1.Preparation Before![]() |
I wore gloves and coiled rail with proper mandrel, first from about 7cm diameter to 5cm diameter. Then a rail circle became about 7cm diameter. More, coiled with mandrel about 3cm diameter, then it became about 4cm diameter. I used these two rail circles, about 7cm and 4cm diameter.

I drew many proper same diameter circle (about 9cm diameter, I hadn't measured). I jointed circle next to next with same diameter tangent reverse curve circle. So this plan has no straight rail, together with same diameter "S" curves. |
