The story of the Noh play "Dojoji" is as follows: A ceremony is held in Dojoji Temple (Wakayama prefecture in the West part of Japan) to celebrate the installation of a new bell. The priest says to his servant that women are prohibited to enter into the temple. A female dancer comes there and ask the servant to enter. The servant allows her to enter because she says she dances. During her dance, she comes near the bell, jumps up inside it and pulls it down.
The priest tells to his colleagues and servants, "Once upon a time, there was a young priest. On his way of yearly pilgrimage, he stayed in a house of a man who lived with his daughter near Dojoji Temple. In joke, the man said to his daughter that the young priest would be her husband. She grew up believing this, but the young priest refused her. He ran to Dojoji Temple and hid himself in the bell. She chased him and changed herself into a serpent, crossed a river, coiled herself round the bell and melted it with her fury."
When the priest finds out that the dancer is the same girl who melted the original bell, a serpent demoness appears out of the bell. The priests drives away the demoness into the river by their Buddhism power.
