ラッシュが初めてレコーディングを経験したのが、イーライ・トスカーノの興したインディー・レーベル、コブラであった。レコーディングの時期としては、1956年から58年のたった2年間、16曲を残したに過ぎないのだが、さすがにここでの存在感はすごい。ラッシュ自身も、コブラでは自分のやりたいようにレコードを作ることができたと振り返っている。その充実した内容に、「ラッシュを聴きたければまずコブラを聴け」というファンも多いのだ。

エリック・クラプトンもブルースブレイカーズ時代に必死にコピーした"All Your Love"のテンポの小気味よさといい、スローな"Groaning The Blues"でのずっしりとしたパワーといい、どれもラッシュのほとばしる感情がギッシリ詰め込まれた極上ブルースだ。また、"My Love Will Never Die"、"Double Trouble"のようなマイナー調の曲で、ラッシュがシカゴ・ブルースに新たな息吹きを吹き込んだことも忘れてはならないだろう。

"Double Trouble"はブルースのスタンダード曲として定着しているし、"I Can't Quit You Baby"は、レッド・ツェッペリンがカバーして、ロック・ファンにもお馴染となっている。

このPヴァイン盤は、別テイク9テイクを収録した25トラック分を収録。ロバート・ジョンソンの別テイク何かと違って、オーティスのコブラに関しては、別テイクが本テイクと劇的に違うということはないので、冒頭からいきなり同じ曲が3回出てくる編集はちとつらい、か。

2001年現在、本盤は廃盤。同じPヴァインでは、"I Can't Quit You Baby"というコンピレーションを2000年に出しており（下記参照）、そっちの方が内容的によいので、本盤を探す必要はないだろう。

このCD、何故かは知らないけど音が非常によく、別バージョンも多く収録されているので、買って損はない。

18.に"Little Red Rooster"という他の盤にはない曲が入っていることになっているけど、これは「騙し」。未発表曲ではありません。実際は、この曲は"Sit Down Baby"の別テイクです。

あと何故かは判らないが、24.のあとに隠しトラックとして、"I Can't Quit You Baby"が入っている。1.はエンディングが失敗している別テイクで、恐らく、こちらが本テイクだと思う。隠すようなもんじゃないのに。CD制作者サイドのお遊びでしょう。

"THE COBRA SESSIONS 1956-1958" (PヴァインPCD-2128）が廃盤になり、そのかわりに同じPヴァインが出したのが、本盤だ。先の盤は、作曲、ミュージシャンのクレジットがいい加減だったが、本盤は正確、詳細になっているし、小出斉氏の解説も丁寧。ブックレットには、ラッシュのマサキ夫人が提供した珍しい写真も掲載されており、ラッシュのコブラを聴くならば、決定版と言える１枚だろう。ウェストサイド盤、同様音質も申し分ない。

内容としては1.から16.までが、レコード番号順（＝録音順）にシングル盤の本テイクを収録し、17.以降に別テイクを計11テイクまとめた形。
